Lanzarote

Lanzarote is the easternmost of the Canary Islands. Among Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura, Lanzarote is one of the best known and most popular of the Canary Islands.

Over and over covered with lava, it offers the visitor a fascinating natural spectacle.
As the Timanfaya National Park shines with bright colors, the island appears often gray and barren during the summer months. And yet there is something, an energy which the traveler can not resist: black lava fields stretch for miles across the island, offer fertile ground for the incomparable Lanzarote wine and provide a contrast to the bright white natural beaches in the north and the wide, wonderful beaches in the south of the island.

Rugged rocks at the bright green Lago Verde in the west and 1,000 palm trees like in Haría make Lanzarote an experience rich in variety.

Lanzarote is a class of its own.
Here you will not find huge hotel complexes, but sympathetic apartment complexes and bungalows. In the three tourist resorts of Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise the sun-seeking tourist will find sufficient fun and variety in numerous restaurants, bars and pubs.
Even the sporty visitors will strike it lucky here: you can go surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and of course ride the banana boat. You may romp the waves in a kayak, swing your golf clubs on one of the two well developed golf courses or ride your rented bicycle to the mountains, or just alongside the beach on the fully developed and cycle-friendly promenades of the tourist places.

Of course, Lanzarote has a lot of points of interest and culture to offer. The fascinating works of Manrique like "Jameos del Agua", the "Cueva de los Verdes", not forgetting the viewpoint "Mirador del Río" are found scattered across the island and are worth a visit. There are art exhibitions and concerts, markets (such as the art market in Haría) and museums, about which every tourist centre has information.

Lanzarote is worthwhile - in every respect.

Our tip.

Fundación César Manrique

Located north of Arrecife is Tahiche, a small village where César Manrique lived for years.

The foundation, based at Manrique's home, is a private, non-profit organisation set-up to allow tourists access to Manrique's home and also to the art-gallery featuring both art created by Manrique himself, as well as art Manrique acquired over his life.
